Positive Relationship Building

"We are made for goodness. We are made for love. We are made for friendliness. We are made for togetherness. We are made for all of the beautiful things that you and I know. We are made to tell the world that there are no outsiders. All are welcome: black, white, red, yellow, rich, poor, educated, not educated, male, female, gay, straight, all, all, all. We all belong to this family, this human family, God's family."
Desmond Tutu

Harmony Card - Togetherness.
I love my world, I love myself.
I feel connected to all living things.
I include others when I play.
I respect differences – everybody is special.
How do you choose Togetherness?

For Parents

What does being together look and feel like?

Share out loud and acknowledge how you love spending time together. Have a movie night. But not just any kind of movie night. Go all out. Build forts, get all the pillows out of the bedrooms into the lounge room for comfort. Make it special. Make homemade pizza together first or some popcorn. For togetherness it can mean finding that special time to have one-on-one time with your partner. Notice the feelings of togetherness. Help your children to link the emotional feelings of the memories to store in their body and mind as something that brings joy and connection. This builds and sustains their long term happiness and relationships.

For Educators

Create a Kindness Chain.  Have the class work on something meaningful and purposeful together. Something that helps them to tap into their values and feelings of empowerment and connection.

Cut out strips of paper and have the children write on the paper every time they see an act of kindness and acknowledge someone. "Sarah was kind when she helped Mitch to water the garden." Then link them all up around the room and share how small acts of kindness help to bring us all TOGETHER. You can have any virtue or values you want to create. It could be a gratitude chain. Either way, it brings you all together to create a culture of care and connection.
