I love how Maggie Dent an international parenting expert and known as the Queen of Common Sense, intentionally uses the term 'the gradual increases in life-skills."
This is the empowering thing for us to remember as parents and educators. It happens with practice, effort, guiding, nurturing, teaching and then rinse and repeat. This is the very essence of Growth Mindset. It's all in the daily practice and the processes we have in place.
Take the pressure off yourself and the children in your life. You will have more energy to be realistic with yourself in what's possible, doable and available.
Life-skills are not an overnight skill. Educating and raising children is not an overnight skill. It's a long term approach.
Teaching reading doesn't just happen. It's all in the processes and practices.
We are all learning and growing alongside each other. We are all works in progress. One day you will be celebrating a child's abilities in how far they have come and where they are today because of the awareness of the gradual increase. In all the research in Growth Mindset we need to remember this empowering phrase. "Focus on the process and progress not perfection of the outcome."
Enjoy the process. Enjoy the growth, the learning alongside each other.
