Passion is Energy

"Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you." - Oprah Winfrey

Shine a light on passion.

Showing interest in train stations with your toddler if trains are not your thing can feel like splinters up a fingernail, yet we do (and some days sort of do it). We see their shiny eye moments and hear for the hundredth if not thousandth time how the train goes through the tunnel at exactly the same time it did last time and we smile and share that moment together. Showing interest in a child’s interest helps us to connect with them. They feel seen, heard and valued in that moment. It keeps momentum for their passion and their curiosity to learn more about it. Their passion is what energises them and contributes to their health and happiness. Their interests and passions are more important than we give credit to.

For Parents

Get down on the floor and get amongst their interest. Immerse into it through the eyes of your child. Although it can feel like ground hog day if the passion has stuck around for a long time, get curious, ask questions. “Tell me more about the train?” “Why do you choose that one?” “What else could it do?” Become a part of their world and they will learn how to be that for someone else one day. An interested, engaged and caring friend. AND don't forget to remember what you are passionate about too (possibly not trains lol), notice if you have friends that show interest in your passions. Spend more time with them.

For Educators

Ask your class about their interests outside of their learning. What do they do for a hobby, a sport, their food interests, their futuristic thinking about their life and all kinds of passions they may or may not have? You could do 5 things you didn’t know about me with regards to; food, sport, music, family, friendships. Enjoy hearing their interests and getting to connect with each other even more. Share your 5 with your class and let them get to show interest in your passions.
