30 Day Mindset Booster.

Apr 19, 2020

I love a good challenge, especially with mindset because it gives you the power to use our thinking for growth and improving on what you believe to hold true about yourself; your self-belief.

The intention for this challenge is to have some fun and to notice when you are choosing a growth or fixed mindset.  Growth Mindset is flexible and believes our inner qualities can be cultivated and developed. Fixed Mindset believes we are born with a certain amount of smarts and that’s it.  Of course there is way more to Fixed and Growth Mindset but for this challenge I wanted the focus to be on cultivating our inner qualities and all the character strengths we want for ourselves and our child. This like; flexibility, compassion, kindness, creativity and hundreds more.

This 30 days gives a focus and a set time to practice and try it out. It can be fun and helpful to experience the challenge with friends or a partner. It supports you to practice seeing things from a different perspective, recognizing teachable moments, reframing and nurturing a growth mindset.

In my own parenting life, I do challenges with my son when we see something, I ask him what he thinks has happened or what else could it be? This helps him to see that not everything is black and white and how our assumptions can be misleading and inaccurate. He also gets to practice flexibility in his thinking and not just get fixed on one way.

An interesting example is when we were at the supermarket and a man had no shirt on. My son thought this was funny and was sort of mocking the man. However, I knew my son found a person not wearing a shirt out shopping unusual. I said to him, “What do you think could have happened?” He answered and I asked again, “What else could it be?” By the time we left my son had a whole new picture of not jumping to conclusions or assuming he knows what has happened. It was fun to think of the endless possibilities and some of our ideas were fascinating.

I do believe this practice helps to bring practise at shifting perspective, connection, compassion, and tolerance towards ourselves and others as well as WAY more patience in our parenting. With this challenge you get to practise growth mindset; reframing, teachable moments, behavioural flexibility and a whole lot more. Have fun with it.

If you are up for it, enjoy the growth and the challenge!
