Notice the virtue or chararacter strength (kindness, friendliness, persistence, independence, enthusiasm).
Name it: Language it. Use the word.
Acknowledge. How you see your child choosing to use the virtue.
“Thank you for being so kind and helping me pick up the dirty clothes off the floor.” (You notice their action, you named the virtue…kindness and you acknowledged the action in which they used it).
It takes practice. Put the 3 steps on the fridge or as a visual reminder and have a go. When we nurture, and encourage virtues and character strengths we get to positively influence the way a child sees themselves and what they believe to be true about themselves.
You get to focus more on what’s STRONG and less on what is wrong.
Happy, whole-hearted parenting.
