About Our Program
What we do! There is nothing quite like the Kids in Harmony program.
Music - Massage - Relaxation – Values Awareness
The Kids in Harmony concept is one of a kind!
Using a combination of music, massage, relaxation and values education we aim to nurture the whole family. At Kids in Harmony, we believe that being a parent or caregiver is the most important job any of us will undertake in life. Our programs aim to foster in children a love and respect for themselves and the world they live in.
I love my world I love myself!
Throughout a 45-minute class, the facilitator engages the attention and excitement of the children and their carergivers by delivering a lively program of music and values. The core structure of values awareness, music, massage and relaxation pave the way for a unique learning experience.
A combination of original Kids in Harmony songs and activities and beautiful traditional songs are used to enhance children’s natural love of music and rhythm. All classes are age-specific and kept to a size that ensures an intimate and personal experience for families.
Music soothes the soul. It allows us to feel emotions and find our inner beat and rhythm.
Learning music at an early age gives children a passion for fun, adventure and movement. We lay the foundations for music in a professional and creative environment, designed for specific age groups to ensure children are given every opportunity to learn and grow.
Children learn music and life skills through feeling, expressing, exploring and, of course, having fun. Using a range of instruments and methods, Kids in Harmony is inspiring a new generation of children to become confident, enthusiastic and loving music-makers.
Massage communicates love through touch.
Massage encourages respectful and reassuring touch in a safe and nurturing environment. A hug, a gentle touch or a warm pat on the back can connect us to each other and form a bond of communication like no other.
At Kids in Harmony, we value the many virtues that respectful touch and massage can bring to families: trust, consideration, gentleness, love and peaceful interactions.
Incorporating massage within the program allows us to focus on one of the cornerstones of healthy relationships – ‘giving is receiving’.
Relaxation is instrumental to living a balanced life, just as learning to listen to our bodies is an important aspect of self-care.
It would be nice to think that our children have an immunity to stress and anxiety. But in this fast-paced world, children can be as susceptible to stress as adults.
Teaching basic relaxation techniques to your child is one of the most important things you can do. At Kids in Harmony, our relaxation methods are simple, and easily implemented within the home environment.
Relaxation is a life skill that enhances health and wellbeing for every member of the family.
Within our program we do yoga play and yoga influenced stretches and strengthening exercises - which focus on body awareness, strengthening and coordination activities. Our program is non-denominational (not of or related to any religious denomination).
Under NO circumstances do we teach religious education. We do have on occasions use religious quotes in our handouts if we feel they are meaningful and inspirational. The quotes are not chosen to promote a particular religion. Our faith at Kids in Harmony is in people. We have many different religious books in our harmony shop that have been requested by parents that attend our centre.
Virtues, Character Strengths and Values Education
We value the decades of research in Positive Psychology. In particular the work of Dr Martin E.P. Seligman and Christopher Peterson in Virtues and Character Strengths. This research gives our program the evidence, awareness and understanding around laying the foundations within our program. For more information of some of this research visit www.viacharacter.org Special messages (simple child friendly affirmation) are used weekly to promote values awareness and to recognise the character strengths and opportunities that exist within our lives and the lives of children.
By focussing each week on one of the many universal virtues, Kids in Harmony aims to encourage self-awareness by giving examples of how we can bring our character strengths to the many relationships in our lives, while gently reminding us that we have the power to choose how we make the most of our unique strengths and differences.
Getting to know ourselves – what we value, our strengths, and the very things we hold dear to us – can give us strategies for a meaningful life and build our character. Self-awareness helps us to be awake to the world around us and to appreciate the many gifts along the way.
Our handouts are inspirational, informative and educational, but we are also conscious not to overload or bombard our families with written information.
At Kids in Harmony we have been inspired by many ways of encouraging values, virtues, strengths and character building. In a nutshell – we have great enthusiasm for what we do and constantly strive to find better ways to help our families connect and grow.
